Site Preparation — Portland Metro

Site Preparation & Clearing

Before a foundation goes in, before a slab gets poured, before any structure gets built — the site has to be ready. We handle every step of site prep from clearing to compacted subgrade.

A Properly Prepared Site Changes Everything

Site preparation is the most critical phase of any construction project — and the most often rushed. A poorly prepared site leads to settling foundations, cracked slabs, drainage failures, and costly remediation. We've been preparing sites in the Portland metro area for over 40 years. We know Oregon's soils, we know the drainage challenges, and we know what it takes to hand off a site that's truly ready to build on.

What We Do

Site Preparation Services

Vegetation & Debris Clearing

Removing brush, stumps, trees, and organic debris from the build area. We grind stumps below grade and haul all material off-site, leaving a clean footprint ready for earthwork.

Topsoil Stripping

Stripping and stockpiling or removing organic topsoil from the building footprint. Organic material under a structure compresses and decomposes — it has to come out before any compacted fill or foundation work begins.

Subgrade Preparation

Excavating to the correct depth, addressing soft spots and unsuitable material, and preparing a uniform subgrade ready for compacted fill or aggregate base. This is what prevents settling.

Compacted Fill Placement

Placing and compacting structural fill in lifts to achieve the specified density. We can arrange compaction testing when required by engineering or permit.

Utility Trench Coordination

Coordinating with utility contractors for water, sewer, electrical, and gas trenching. We can excavate utility trenches and backfill after inspection.

Erosion Control

Installing silt fencing, straw wattles, and other erosion control measures required by permit or best practice. Oregon's wet winters make erosion control essential on any disturbed site.

Why It Matters

The Foundation of Every Successful Build

Every structural failure we've ever seen traces back to inadequate site preparation. Organic material left in place, insufficient compaction, poor drainage — these are the problems that show up years later as cracked foundations and flooded crawl spaces.

Organic material under structures causes long-term settling
Proper compaction is required by code and by engineering
Drainage must be established before any structure is built
