A Portland front yard that flooded every wet season — French drain installed to route water through to the backyard slope where it can run off safely.
The homeowner's front yard was flooding every time it rained. Water had nowhere to go — the grade wasn't moving it and the soil wasn't absorbing it fast enough, so it sat in the front yard and pooled against the house. Portland's wet winters meant this was a recurring problem all season long. They needed a permanent fix that would get the water out of the front yard and off the property.
We trenched through the front yard and installed a French drain system to intercept the water before it could pool. The drain line was routed through the property to the backyard, where the natural slope carries the water safely away. The trench was filled with clean drain rock, the pipe wrapped in filter fabric to prevent silt intrusion, and the yard was restored after the work was complete.
The front yard drains properly now. Water that used to sit for days after a rain event is being picked up by the drain and routed to the backyard slope where it runs off without causing any issues. The homeowner gets a dry front yard through the wet season without any ongoing maintenance.
